Written termination received with no details

SATYAGRAHA - day 5 - No termination letter yet?
It is to be remembered that 99% of all bullets fired and all police atrocities committed during the British Empire were done by Indian Sepoys under British command. Interestingly, the Chinese did not make good sepoys, because they refused to sell out. The Blacks had to be physically chained to enslave them. But Indians volunteered with great pride.

SATYAGRAHA - day 4 - "You have been Fired" ?
Me - "Hello"Linda - "Hi BrownMan, How are you?"Me - "Hi, Fine"Linda - "Judy is here"Me - "OK"Linda - "BrownMan, where are you? near JPMC building?"Me - "I am inside a restaurant"Linda - "Are you ok there?"Me - "Yes"Linda - "You have been fired, today is your last day"Me - "OK, but why?"Linda - "Misconduct"Me - "Misconduct? What do you mean?Linda - "It has lead to unfavorable working condition"Me - "You know that it's not fair assessment"Linda - "We don't believe so, we can talk next week"Me - "OK, Are you going to send a written confirmation of this?"Linda - "Yes"Me - "OK"
1. My 3rd letter had exposed that HR lacks an effective mechanism to handle my case, in fact any case that involves a colored man from a non-Christian background. I argued against Eurocentrism and thus hit the nail on the head regarding their hypocritical analysis including "denial" and "blaming the victim" techniques.2. They must have thought - how dare I reach out to higher management again. Lower management was concerned that this episode will reveal to higher management that racism exists within the firm in Houston. On the other hand if senior management gets a wind of this it is an embarassment for them that they cannot "handle" an associate level employee "appropriately" and cover it up.3. Some gmails in line with my asking - how can I work with denial of work facilities, can you clearly state my employment status with FedEx attachment back to them and HR's obscene game of forcing a disease on me was clearly a big embarrassment which they had successfully blocked from being revealed earlier. The people who were initially CCed on my OOO gmail were part of that email chain. Also I had to state to them why I was FOOO. Thus HR's unethical techniques were exposed to all. At a personal level it revealed how sleazy Linda, Anna and such ilk can be.

Subject Response to our last meeting
Hi Linda,
Hurricane has decimated most of our ability to communicate. No ability to make or recieve phone calls. Hence writing this email from another location where there is internet access. I realized that my gmail account has been blocked by HR since a week hence resending all my previous emails from another account I created.
Thanks.

Disability packet - unsolicited gift from HR

--
Friday, September 12, 2008
GMAIL address also blocked - goes nowhere!
On Friday i.e 9/12, I realized that all my emails sent from my Gmail account have not been received by JPMC email servers, they have sort of gone into black hole. I did not recieve any bounced messages back so assumed the recipients had recieved it. I had no idea HR/lower management has indulged in this trick. I realized this only when I was talking to a person CCed on this email when he said he did not recieve that email or any since the Friday before.
No wonder they can assume conveniently - that I am on absence when I have made every effort to contact them to get back to work. My plan is to resend all those emails again from another Gmail account, create a quick temporary one and get it past their servers and then it does not matter. Considering Hurricane Ike and preparation for it I will do it as soon as I get a chance.
* updated later *
Hurricane caused severe damage to communication abilities for next few days. On Monday 9/15 I went to neighborhood location where there was internet access and created another gmail account. Resent all the following gmails again in the order I had sent to the same addressees retaining the timestamp so that JPMC cannot deny that I had this sent earlier.

subject Regarding latest FedEx letter
mailed-bygmail.com
Hello Linda,
I received your overnight FedEx dated 9/10. You have stated that you would like to discuss the following - "status of my current absence, future employment at the firm and disability" by end of today i.e Friday, September 12, 2008.
Let me state the facts on each of these:
1. status of my current absence - I was absent for 3 days in the past. First notifying for a day and then notifying that I will take rest for 2 more days, between dates 9/3-9/5 During those dates my access to work mail and JPMC building was denied. So it's inaccurate to state that absence is "current". Since Monday i.e 9/8 I have tried to be at work. I have written multiple emails in this regard. I waited whole day on Monday but received no communication back regarding this. On Tuesday 9/9 I was outside JPMC building doing satyagraha, I met Brad Breau and spoke with him about lack of communication from JPMC. The effect of that is your FedEx delivery that I received yesterday AM, i.e 9/11. I was outside JPMC building yesterday too. So had my first chance to read your message only yesterday evening. In summary your statement of current absence is inaccurate when actually I have made every effort to be at work since Monday 9/8.
2. future employment at the firm - Yes, we can discuss about this. Since HR lacks a mechanism to handle my case leading to failure to address my case equitably and considering that I cannot perform my duties under current manager let us explore how we can move forward.
3. disability package - I don't understand this at all. I have already made this crystal clear to Judith from EAP. Any attempt to "build a case" in this direction will be ethically wrong and will be a blemish on JPMC with serious reputational risk involved. Be mindful of that.
Here in Houston there is a hurricane alert. I might even have to evacuate. So today is not a good day to discuss. Be prepared to clarify on my concerns stated above when we talk on Monday. I will call you soon to let you know that I have sent this email.

SATYAGRAHA - day 2 - getting permit to protest
Since the cop like guy was complaining that I need to have a protest permit I drove to downtown City Hall to get it. There I was told to go to 611 Walker. After waiting half an hour they said I don't need any permit since I was not obstructing any vehicular traffic by blocking any lanes. They issue only permits of that kind. Good. I explained my way of protest. A lady said to go back to City Hall for "special event" protest if at all required though she was sure I dont'need any. So I was back at City Hall where I waited for 20 minutes before a lady appeared. I explained why I was protesting, how and even showed the placard. She laughed and said what I was doing was absoultely perfect and that I was well within my rights of 5th Amendment regarding freedom of speech and freedom of expression, which is part of Bill of Rights. I was happy, I knew I was doing the right thing, not breaking any law. Wherever I sat/stood for protest it wasn't even blocking or impeding pedestrian traffic.
May be the cop was not really a cop but some security personnel of a building. I did not notice his insignia very well. If he wasn't lying then I must have pricked the guilt conscience of the people who complained, most white folks aren't comfortable at all with racism, slavery and such. Anybody holding a placard "Victim of Prejudice" is enough to trigger that! Anyway I will continue to protest unless developments change that course.
Later in the night I let Brad know that there was no FedEx delivery today.

subject No FedEx delivery today
mailed-bygmail.com
Hi Brad,
Earlier I had told HR that "My relationship with JPMC started with an offer letter that was detailed enough and I expect any change in this relationship to be communicated to me in the same manner in all respects. Needless to say the FedEx communication failed to convey whatever needed to be conveyed"
In this regard when we met on the street yesterday you said you will speak to HR and have a FedEx message delivered. This would pave way to our future talks if any. I was expecting a FedEx overnight delivery with communication from HR clarifying what the previous deliverywas about and letting me know the status of my employment in clear terms. I did not receive any today at least not until 4:00PM CST
Please let me know.

Ms Judith Bess,
You called me and left me a voicemail to call you back. I stopped doing call backs after realizing that it's HR's way of not leaving a paper trail. You said you are from EAP. A person will approach EAP if needed only. That's the direction of approach, not your way. I was little disturbed for 2 days or so because of my readings about so much sufferings endured by african americans and original americans in American history. Lack of sleep made it worse. I candidly said that when I sent my OOO note. I believe being not politically correct, meaning being accurate, is not a disease. I am perfectly alright, so much perfect that I am writing emails, did satyagraha, not only spoke but reasoned with Brad, reasoned with several people that impressed them, so living a normal life! I don't need EAP. You can tell Linda not to introduce unnecessary complications to "build a case" against me. This is getting obscene. You can also tell her not to revive the ghost of "Doctor" Samuel Cartwright here by introducing maladies that don't exist :-)
Thank you for your call, but no thanks. I believe you were just doing your job without knowledge of all that is going on. Meanwhile here's an idea. If you are looking for people to councel you can pick Linda. If she believes that I have a problem then she really has a problem. No wonder that has lead to incorrect analysis and faulty conclusion regarding the case I had with HR. May be you can cure her from Eurocentrism.
Hope that's crystal clear.

Hello all,
I did not get any response either from anna or from HR on my previous two emails - email1 and email2. So yesterday I was outside JPMC building in Houston doing my version of Satyagraha. Brad Breau, site director, came by and talked to me, promised that he will make HR send a clear written communication about my employment status by FedEx overnight. I have not received it yet. Once I get it Brad and myself agreed to have further dialog. Meanwhile it's obvious that I cannot perform any work. So consider that I am forced to be OOO until you receive further communication. Please do not call me at my desk number or send emails to my work address. My cell phone number is below. Thanks.

SATYAGRAHA - my version - day 1
VICTIM of PREJUDICE
-----------------PLEASE HELP--------------------
Yesterday I bought a canopy chair. Today morning made not so good cardboard placard, took few supplies, lunch, water, books and such - all set for the strangest experience of my life. I sat on the sidewalk right under a tree in front of JPMC building on Fannin between Lamar and Dallas streets. I attached the placard on the front of the canopy.
After 10 minutes the building security, a lady, complained that I am on their property. I was on the sidewalk actually. Since it was satyagraha I didn't argue. Went to corner of adjacent building and was comfortable there for a while. Then a cop came by to ask if I had a permit to protest. I had no idea what this was. He gave me some ideas on how to get that. But I had no immediate plans. He suggested to get closer to the street, on sidewalk, there it was ok to protest as long as no pedestrians or others complained. So I moved in closer. The placard kept falling so held it in hand. Spent totally an hour there. I was about to leave that corner when the JPMC security lady came by, seemed like she was taking a picture using her cell phone, I did not exactly notice as I was talking with 2 pedestrians about my protest. I don't know her what her intent was. Should have asked but forgot. She asked - "what happened?" and I explained. She replied - "I understand, We need to be all together in this". She was black, so understood a brown's scenario. I said - "Thanks, and I know that you are just doing your job". She nodded and left. By this time I had interacted with few Indians from JPMC. One passerby had noddingly said - "I am a victim of prejudice too". Another suggested the obvious, that I need to get a lawyer.
Then moved to the corner facing the JPMC Garage and Monsoon. After 10 minutes or so a white car (Ford Taurus may be) speedily swung by from San Jacinto turning towards Lamar, I could not get a good look of the guy inside, he had his passenger side window down and was trying to tell me something with his face turned away while extending his right hand to hand me something, looked like a piece of paper. He never stopped fully. I shouted "what? what?" but did not budge from sidewalk where I was seated. He sped away. May be he was trying to deliver some message from someone to meet somewhere. The next incident makes me believe so.
Another 10 minutes later I saw Brad Breau, the site director and another person briskly walking around the perimeter of JPMC building. They were looking for me. They saw me when I saw them, so came towards me. Brad said extending his hand "Hi Prahalad, I am Brad hope you know me". "Hi Brad, yes I do" and shook his hand. He introduced another as some Hassel(?) , did not get his name right. He asked what's going on, I told a 10 minute version. He said he knew and has read all my letters. He asked if I wanted "talk" and suggested the building facing back entry of JPMC. I said we could talk right there on the street. I was not comfortable going to a non-JPMC building. Further I told about the FedEx message which is a primary hinderance for any further talk seeking clarification. He promised that he will have ER revoke it, will have a FedEx overnight, so that it's clear to have a talk tomorrow in his office. OK. They left. I am not so sure about how this goes, wait and watch.
Sometime later the same cop came by and asked me whether I had the permit by this time, I said no and he asked me to move again. This time I was on the street, so why move, he said this time even people from that building's office were complaining. It was not convincing, I doubted the people because the cop seemed nice, I expected these hurdles, may be racism in subtle ways, anyway I was planning to move.
It was almost lunchtime, time to move beside Monsoon/Parkshop to face lunch traffic. It got real busy. I was telling my story to several Indians, met several new faces. By the time I was done it was almost 2 PM, my head was aching, throat dry, was tired. It was hot and humid outside. Packed up to parkshop to have lunch at subway. Was back at same spot at 2:30 Had detailed talks after that with two Indians again. Finally left for bus stop at 3:40.
This was some kind of social experiment also. Just watching how people react. About 50 responses. Here is the breakdown.
NOT a single white male responded to my placard. 1 white lady did, but she was a recuiter I knew and her talk was focussed on whether I needed a job. I said no, not yet. May be 2 hispanics did, about 15 blacks and rest were all browns like me, meaning Indians. Blacks, expectedly, resonated the most with my experience, since they have endured the most suffering in American history, Original Americans also called native Americans, have suffered more but we don't see them around at all.
Another very intersting part was - someone approaching me and after some icebreaking talk asking me if I was homeless. No. He said anyway I should start a business selling stuff, he was looking at his mobile duffel bag. He was peddling something, may be drugs. Scary!
I have dental appt. tomorrow. Also not feeling well after today's ordeal. Let us see how it goes.

christine,
I did not receive any reply from anna for the following email I had sent. I did recieve your FedEx package on Sunday evening, it was mishandled by my apartment office thanks to FedEx leaving it there instead of knocking on my door. I am attaching the cryptic letter you sent alongwith this email, minus personal details on it. Look at it and tell me how it makes sense. I will not call you back and talk to you verbally as that has lead to transparency issues before, I am tired of these gimmicks. So feel free to communicate anything in writing. Email is fine, no need to FedEx something as silly as this one. If I don't receive any reply in a reasonable time I will contact EEOC as one of my next steps. This involves interacting externally and thus a reputational risk is involved. Please note that I am doing this after 5 weeks of sincere effort to resolve the case and after HR has failed to address it equitably. In summary I have been told - there is no prejudice, you have to report to Greg only, move on or else - that has been the tone. Last few days it has stooped down to gimmicks - denial of work mail access, unexplained voicemails, denial of building access, cryptic FedEx package and now absolute silence. Complaining to HR has actually resulted in a reprisal contrary to stated Diversity Values.
I have sent an email yesterday to our CEO, Bill Winters and Brian Fay in this regard. Anyway please respond to the following message. Till then I am employed with no ability to render services for J P Morgan Chase.
sincerely,
BrownMan

anna,
My nightmares are gone and I feel much better. I am unable to connect to work email from home since few days. Thinking it was some kind of malfunction and now after recuperation I went to the office today ( sunday afternoon ) and my badge did not work, thus could not enter the building. In the evening I received a fedex package with cryptic message in it. I will not reveal it here at this point of time, there's not much to reveal anyway. I just want to convey the message that denying me access to work communication and work facility does not negate the fact that I am still employed by the firm as per the terms specified in the offer letter. Considering the denial of primary facilities please let me know how I can continue to render services for J P Morgan Chase. This is my only communication regarding the fedex package.
Please note that I am CCing few members of other teams since they might be wondering whether I am still sick or not, per my previous mail seen below, now to make them aware that I will be not be at my desk and also cannot respond to their emails like it used to be.
I was planning to be at the work facility tomorrow. Now I can't. As I have clearly stated to you and HR several times I will never be able to report to Greg for well known reasons. Having said that, If there is any change in your position please let me know with a clear written detailed communication. My relationship with JPMC started with an offer letter that was detailed enough and I expect any change in this relationship to be communicated to me in the same manner in all respects. Needless to say the FedEx communication failed to conveywhatever needed to be conveyed.

FedEx package with Cryptic message
During my drive back from downtown from office after badge failed I decided to drop by the apartment office, they are open in the PM on sundays. FedEx package/message was bothering me.
When I checked this time a lady did find something and apologized since it looked like overnight delivery. My wife later told me that they have mishandled few times. Anyway I opened it then and there only to find a simple message, click and see the digital photo of it below ( minus my info )
Cryptic. Is this really happening with JPMC logo on it?
That explained badge failure. But I am not planning to contact anyone. I am not interested in "call me back" or similar messages with everything happening verbally with no paper trail. When I received employment offer all terms were clear and I had 24 hours to accept the offer letter by signing it and sending it. Likewise I am entitled to receive decent professional communication from right authority with details in it. I am employed until then. Denying me access to work communication and work facility does not negate the fact that I am still employed by the firm. I will send an email to anna letting her know my inability to work under current circumstances.
Badge failed at JPMC office on Sunday 9-8-2008
After few days of recuperation I went by the office today, sunday, in the afternoon. I was planning to resend the emails that I had sent to senior management again from office network. I thought may be my Lotus Notes was failing from home and it might be fine at work. Also wanted to catchup with several work related emails since this ordeal was taking too much of my time. I know badge is a must on weekends to enter the building.
The badge failed to let me in. I tried from Lamar/Fannin side. Then tried at Dallas/Fannin side and again it failed. I just left. I figured the cooking has gone extreme. May be I had a sarcastic smile at the security camera there. The axe of adharma was falling. First it was email failure and then strange calls and now this. Could not believe lower management in collusion with HR was indulging in such cheap gimmicks. Or was it just that all things were malfunctioning at the same time?

After Meeting with ER the 3rd Letter
Linda,
This is with regard to our last meeting on 9/2. You conveyed me basically what HR had conveyed me earlier - that there is NO prejudice and I should continue reporting to my current manager.
Since you were coming from Employee Relations group linked to Brian Fay I was expecting that your group will do independent and more thorough investigation than what "one person team" called HR business partner i.e Christine Eckert did. My concerns were focused on lack of transparency in their method of investigation and lack of objectivity in analyzing the results. These were highlighted in my second letter to HR. One persons integrity and ethics itself can dictate the outcome, the process is flawed. When asked about this you said Employee Relations is a Corporate-wide body and it has no direct knowledge of what happens at various work groups; so it relies solely on findings by HR business partner and there is no alternative infrastructure in place. If that is the case then my statement about lack of transparency and objectivity is unchanged. The latter is a very big concern.
Since you are a ER person I will presume your intellect is superior than a typical HR person. So I am going to elevate the discussion that we had verbally in writing , consider this as dialog.
I asked about whether you have a HR panel of advisors I can talk to. You replied in the negative. There in lies a huge problem. JP Morgan Chase is a global firm employing diverse group of employees. My complaint is a diversity issue since I am not a white man. As I said in my 2nd letter Houston IT workforce is about 50% Indian origin and 90% of them practice to various degree Hindu way of life. There is significant percentage of people of India origin in NY and other US locations also. Considering this there is no due representation in the HR entity which decides what is wrong, what is right, what is fair and such in an equitable manner. Under this condition the perspective is flawed. The composition of a HR panel should be representative of different colors/races as it can practically be implemented. Not just all white men and women. There should be people of other color, religion etc., so that HR can equip itself to handle all kinds of diversity issues. IBM has such a system in place. My point is you can never ever feel the exact kind of pain of the victim unless you belong to victim’s race/color/religion depending on the nature of complaint. In other words my complaint is diversity issue but there is no diversity panel in HR to investigate this impartially. Please read the diversity statement very carefully, can you tell me what is wrong?
“Building a workplace where differences are respected and valued is critical to our future. We have an amazing opportunity in front of us to build the best financial services company in the world. Achieving this depends on having the best people doing their best work. For us, the business case is simple: JPMorgan Chase is a place for talented people from all backgrounds and nationalities. Gender, race, sexual orientation, age and physical ability are just some of the kinds of differences that make people unique — and give us the diversity of perspective that will set us apart. We’re committed to ensuring that diversity remains a key priority...our collective diversity is our strength.” – Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO, JPMorgan ChaseNo, it's fine, it's perfect the way it is stated. But there is a problem in applying and practicing the section in italics when it comes to HR. Just like company's workforce need to be diverse to give us the diversity of perspective in other matters it's important that HR which is a subset of such workforce need to be diverse too to give the firm the diversity of perspective in HR related matters. Lacking diverse workforce within HR is a failure of the system. Later on in the statement you see "diversity remains a key priority". May be it's not a key priority within HR. Then again it's a failure of the system.
So in summary, Currently JPMC HR is lacking effective mechanism to deal with diversity issues in an equitable manner. It cannot comprehend the complaint and grasp the details that go with it. JPMC HR has not kept pace with diversity and globalization. You would agree that justice delivered now is justice delivered with Eurocentric lens which means it’s far from perfect. History is evidence to that statement.
Please read this scholarly article, Dialog on Whiteness Studies, it’s a must read if you sincerely plan to be an effective HR person. It's a must read for every HR person, one day you will thank me for this. As I said in my 2nd letter White man practices “Eurocentrism” either consciously or subconsciously. They are not even aware of practicing this simply because their yardstick is their own and not with reference to something that is decentralized and which is the ideal one.
About your other statements:
Defending Greg in a summed up response to incidents 1 and 2 you said - “I believe there is a certain level of inquisitive nature there in Houston. You guys celebrate Black History month and such”
That sounds like sanctimonious pontification from the ivory tower of New York City. I can’t speak for blacks but Yes we do as it is “celebrated” everywhere. What’s the point in "celebrating” after the damage is done. Slavery should not have happened in the first place. Same with original Americans who are being “celebrated” with sports mascots.
Anyway, back to your statement, you expect a lot of reasonableness and generosity from me there while you try to "sweep under the rug" 2 major incidents that are the crux of my complaint without considering the circumstances when they happened. I have already written in detail about these 2 incidents in my 2nd letter to HR and posed questions which still remain unanswered.
It’s odd that you used the word inquisitive which also means – “unduly or inappropriately curious; prying”. Did you know? That exact nature led to Inquisition which caused the genocide of Hindus in India once upon a time. Here's a paragraph about this.
The Goan inquisition is regarded by all contemporary portrayals as the most violent inquisition ever executed by the Portuguese Catholic Church. It lasted from 1560 to 1812. The inquisition was set as a tribunal, headed by a judge, sent to Goa from Portugal and was assisted by two judicial henchmen. The judge was answerable to no one except to Lisbon and handed down punishments as he saw fit. The Inquisition Laws filled 230 pages and the palace where the Inquisition was conducted was known as the Big House and the Inquisition proceedings were always conducted behind closed shutters and closed doors. The screams of agony of the culprits (men, women, and children) could be heard in the streets, in the stillness of the night, as they were brutally interrogated, flogged, and slowly dismembered in front of their relatives. Eyelids were sliced off and extremities were amputated carefully, a person could remain conscious even though the only thing that remained was his torso and a head.Anyway, you can read more about it here and here and here. Note that the first detailed account was written by a Christian historian, Dr. T. R. de Souza
Honestly, in contradiction to your statement Greg was NOT new to Indians at all as there were few people already working with him at the time I joined. So you cannot sweep it under the carpet as "inquisitiveness". Definitely NOT inquisitiveness considering the circumstances.
You said - “people have different levels of tolerance”
What is your meaning of tolerance? I am amazed how many times this comes up. It's as if you want to totally ignore what I say. Denial in action? This is what HR earlier said to which I have responded in detail. Tolerance is a two way street. The issue is about Greg’s level of Intolerance. Though I don't need any pat on the back regarding my virtues does it help to strengthen my argument anymore if I say I have received appreciation from a white IBM executive for my level of tolerance and my ability to indulge in cross cultural dialog. By default Indians especially Hindus are one of the most tolerant of all in the world (Probably Buddhists are a step ahead and Jains two steps ahead in this noblest virtue). Hindus were so tolerant and forgiving that it was construed as weakness. That is one reason why we were raped and ravaged by the Mughals and plundered and pillaged by the Europeans for 1000 years. That is 10 centuries. Think about it, historians have termed it as the longest genocide in the history of mankind so far. All because we were tolerant and expected others were likewise. I had to state all those facts to impress upon you the fact that I am a product of a civilization that is 5000 years old and one of the most civilized on this planet. Tolerance is one of the primary tenets of following Sanathana dharma, but not at the cost of Intolerance directed against it.
Now you are telling me that I need to be tolerant? OR I am not tolerant enough and need to be more tolerant to handle prejudice and racism in direct and subtle forms? OR Need to be more tolerant to handle prejudice and racism in direct and subtle forms when other Indians or other colored folks endure in the US or elsewhere without complaining? Please don't.
Also if you read that article I mentioned above you wouldn’t talk about this again. The burden of tolerance rests with people of all colors and races and not just with non-white people. That is one of the signs of being civilized. Also don’t expect tolerance to tolerate Intolerance.
You said – “we have addressed Greg appropriately”
I know that he was summoned to be in NY on 25th and 26th of August but it’s not transparent how this was addressed. If HR maintains that I need to continue reporting to him I don’t know how this makes sense.
Throughout our discussion you were repeatedly mentioning the incidents as “allegations” despite the proof with details provided. Why?
For incident 1 your reply is different than Christine. You said – “Sadath had no recollection of the incident”. Let’s call him again in my presence. If he can’t recollect it’s bad though it’s vivid in my memory.
About “plad” calling it has potential to have negative connotations. One black employee enlightened me on this fact that I was not even aware of. When I narrated the incident he immediately sensed discomfort. “plad” is very close to “lad” which means “boy”. “Boy” is a racist and a derogatory term used by Whites for a black man. Calling a black man a “boy” is one step short of calling him a “nigger”.
Here is a recent incident in which a Republican senator called Obama a “boy” and later apologized.
Dear Senator Obama:You said - "We have considered your complaint seriously because it can pose threat to our reputation"
On Saturday night I gave a speech in which I used a poor choice of words when discussing the national security policy positions of the Presidential candidates. I was quoted as saying "That boy's finger does not need to be on the button."
My poor choice of words is regrettable and was in no way meant to impugn you or your integrity. I offer my sincere apology to you and ask for your forgiveness.
Though we may disagree on many issues, I know that we share the goal of a prosperous, secure future for our nation. My comment has detracted from the dialogue that we should all be having on legitimate policy differences and in no way reflects the personal and professional respect I have for you.
Sincerely
Geoff Davis
That's exactly why I complained fearing no reprisal. Apart from Greg causing damage to me rotten apples of his kind will forever damage the reputation of our firm from inside by not adhering to the stated Diversity values of our firm, an exceptional statement coming from our CEO. But what good is it if it's just a showpiece, preached but not practiced. Please see final paragraphs of my 2nd letter to HR echoing this sentiment. Considering Indians particularly Hindus are significant in terms of demographics within the firm these incidents will definitely threaten the reputation of our firm amongst this section, if not all.
At the end of our discussion you said – “There is nowhere you can be moved, so you have to continue to report to Greg”
Let's not put the cart before the horse. Lack of a solution should not be an excuse for not solving the problem, at least not this one. Worse it should not influence the analysis of the problem either. Everything should be based on the merits and nature and the gravity of my complaint. JPMC is a huge organization that in terms of mobility anything is possible.
Then you said – “If you don’t report to him it will become a performance issue”
Now, that's clearly an absurd statement. This one simply does not make sense to me. In fact reporting to him will directly affect my performance, both in terms of reality and in perception. In reality from my side - because I will never be at peace with a person who is morally discredited, fallen and to whom I have zero respect. In perception from his side - because he being prejudiced will always view my performance with prejudiced lens only to "build a case" against me.
Is JPMC an equal opportunity employer as it says it is? Some people I have spoken to are of the opinion that since it’s in the business of making money with money, a pure financial firm, it can never truly be on par with GE, IBM, PG and such heavyweights when it comes to Diversity Empowerment and practicing stated Diversity Values. Making money and practicing values do not go together is their thought. I do not believe so.
Please respond. I have not received a single response to my letters to HR so far.

BrownMan

Strange calls from FedEx, Florida, ER
Friday 1:12 PM voicemail from FedEx said they have delivered a package at my apartment office. So they took the apt number but never delivered it to my apartment. I went to office in the evening. Nobody was there since it was Friday Eve. After a while a guy came by and when I asked for the package in my name he shook his head. So no package.
There were two missed calls and one voice mail- one from Florida number and another from NY I guess. I usually don't pickup for unidentified numbers. The NY one was from ER person Linda with her message asking me to call her back. Since it was beginning to be a trend - this "call me back" types I ignored it.
I wanted to just rest. Slept during odd times but was feeling much better. My relative who is a doctor just asked me to take it easy. No more nightmares. Friends and coworkers were concerned about all that was going on. I was on the phone most of the time. So missed all these calls. Seemed like something was "cooking".
Letter to CEO + senior management again
To: brian.fay, bill.t.winters, jamie.dimon
Subject: PLEASE READ - CONFIDENTIAL - REPUTATIONAL RISK
Dear Sirs,
I am writing this and seeking your attention again. Let me begin this letter with our CEO's diversity statement
"Building a workplace where differences are respected and valued is critical to our future. We have an amazing opportunity in front of us to build the best financial services company in the world. Achieving this depends on having the best people doing their best work. For us, the business case is simple: JPMorgan Chase is a place for talented people from all backgrounds and nationalities. Now those words should be constantly reverberating in our heads as you read my letter.
A month ago I started a journey towards getting justice for the injustice meted out to me. I had written my first letter to the HR about the prejudices/racism that I had endured during my 2 year tenure at JPMC. When those characteristics exhibited by my manager became detrimental in judging my abilities it reached an inflection point and I could not endure it anymore. I reported this to HR in a letter seeking help. The solution I was seeking was simple – assign me a different work group with a different manager and let the current manager be disciplined appropriately per my complaint.
After 3 weeks HR said they were done with the investigation. When the results were shared with me verbally I sensed they were lacking objectivity and transparency. Final communication from HR was to carry on with status quo. Hence I wrote them a 2nd letter expressing my concerns. In between I was hinted to resign on my own. I had by then escalated this matter to top tier management, including CEO. A lady from Brian Fay's team called me only to discuss but nothing changed. Concerns from my 2nd letter were not addressed at all. I have written yet another letter to HR, the 3rd.
In summary, I have been stonewalled, arm-twisted, asked to shut up and move on.
Please read my attached letters and do the needed. Thank you.
Regards,
BrownMan

Voice mail from HR
Christine called me Thursday and left a voicemail asking me to call her back. Considering lack of transparency and her repeated ways of communicating everything verbally I did not like the idea of "calling back". She could have left me a voice mail with whatever she had to say. I did not call her back. Anyway wanted to take rest as communicated earlier.
Phone call from FedEx
I received a strange call today ( Thursday ) from FedEx asking for my apartment number. The lady on the other line asked whether I am AppaHEE instead of AppaJI, spanish version, happens quite often. I corrected and said Yes and gave her my apartment number. She told that I will be getting a package. I asked whom is it from. She said JP Morgan Chase. I figured with email access being blocked this must be some written communication from HR about ongoing case. Finally HR was brave enough to put down something on paper!? I waited till evening but nobody came knocking on my door that day.
Lower management "closing" the case
Anna,
I heard that you have been making calls, indulging in management smooth talk and telling everyone that the case is closed.
How can you be so naive? OR Do you expect people to be so naive to believe you?
It's very unfortunate that you are taking sides in this case when you should actually be neutral. Earlier on a different note you had said that "I am free to resign". That was an arm-twisting, unwarranted and uncalled-for statement. And now this.
Talking about the case we have found that the JPMC HR is ill equipped and exhibited inadequacy to handle the case, the HR admitted it tacitly. Several questions that I had posed to HR continue to remain unanswered. There is an effort to trivialize and muffle the case. In the midst of this your actions come across as tantamount to colluding with HR in "closing" the case. If you compromise on your integrity and choose to take sides further that can only damage the case. I do not understand why you would take the side of the pepetrator of the crime and blame the victim instead, now that reminds me of the web page I sent yesterday about my nightmare i.ehttp://www.bluecorncomics.com/blaming.htm
I know that you are a senior manager and as such you have some stake in resolving this case. But as we all know this is a case that involves human traits, extremely ugly ones like Prejudice, Racism and such. Thus artificial corporate constructs like manager, VP, ED etc., do not have a place in this, everyone is person and will act based on individual character. Hence we are all reduced to equals here. Character and Integrity are the key words. Please let me know if you still want to continue your chosen path. In that case I can reveal all my letters that I have written to HR and senior management so far. Then people as humans can judge what the case is about and where fairness lies.
In the presence of God there will be fairness always. Hence "In God we Trust". Truth alone triumphs . Hence "Satyameva Jayate".
In the absence of God a case can only be closed in a court of law or an entity that equates to court of law. So far JPMC HR has fallen short of it.
It Is Wrong To Be Judge, Jury and Executioner.

Anna,
I am still down, though tired and restless I am physically fine but mentally disturbed and depressed. For past two nights I haven't had proper sleep, instead having nightmares!
Ever since this ordeal began I have begun to read a lot about Racism, Prejudice, Discrimination and such diversity related aspects not only related to workplace but in the historical context. Though I am well read and familiar on these topics reading them once again is causing lot of turbulence. May be they are the cause for nightmares. For example last night I had this nightmare about some doctor treating me for "Drapetomania" with my hands and legs tied up. I had read about it last weekend as follows ( It's on this web site http://www.bluecorncomics.com/blaming.htm )
Indeed, what better evidence of white denial (even dementia)
could one need than that provided by "Doctor" Samuel Cartwright, a
well-respected physician of the 19th century, who was so convinced of slavery's
benign nature, that he concocted and named a disease to explain the tendency for
many slaves to run away from their loving masters. Drapetomania, he called it: a
malady that could be cured by keeping the slave in a "child-like state," and
taking care not to treat them as equals, while yet striving not to be too cruel.
Mild whipping was, to Cartwright, the best cure of all. So there you have it:
not only is racial oppression not a problem; even worse, those blacks who resist
it, or refuse to bend to it, or complain about it in any fashion, are to be
viewed not only as exaggerating their condition, but indeed, as mentally ill
(17).
I do not know what to make out of all this. I will call the counselling services offered by the firm ( EAP ), this is the first time in my life I will be exploring this path. Do not know how much it will help. I will try to see a psychologist through my doctor.
On the work front I saw few mails, did not open several of them. KDP was excellent. I will proabably rest this week and hope to be better by Monday.
regards,
BrownMan,

BrownMan,
Given that you are in Houston and I am in NY I've arranged for one of my colleagues, Brenda McKee to join our call today. She is located at 712 Main Street in Houston on the 4th Floor. You should enter the building on the south side (lobby). Please give her a call before you leave your office so she can meet you in the lobby and accompany you up.
